Different studies have shown how remittances improve the lifes of the poor. The rates charged by traditional players are very high. Mobile applications could lower the price of sending money home and lower by about 10% the money lost in the transaction. Hopefully it will be a reality soon.

Dear Camilo,

It is good to hear from the GSMA that mobile money initiatives are finally taking off in Latin America. As you know (thank you for mentioning our report for Fundación Telefónica, btw), we have been working on this topic for quite some time, and we are willing to see the region achieve its full potential of financial inclusion.

We are looking forward to your next posts, and would be happy to exchange our views with you before the Mobile Money Summit in Rio.

Best regards,

Álvaro Martín
